Our hunch and plan for the 2024-25 School year

We are off to a great start to the 2024-25 school year!!  Towards the end of last year, in June 2024,  the staff were surveyed on what they have been noticing about their learners and what we might want to focus on as part of our School Story.  From the staff survey evidence, FSA results,  and  discussions at staff meetings, we came up with a hunch that students were needing some supports in their math programs. Teachers' questions were:

What do numeracy tasks do to support student learning?

How do I use manipulatives to help support the lesson?

How do I differentiate the learning for all the different levels of learners in my class?

What does small math group math instruction look like?

Fortunately, our Learning Services Consultant, Janice Novokowski will be working with us this year and has already been here for a Professional Development Day working with the staff on looking at computational fluency.  Every teacher will be doing a computational fluency assessment in October with each student in order to see where the next steps should be with their class.  From that assessment, teachers will be able to make a plan of action, work with Janice Novokowski in order to support them, and use the information to also work with the resource teachers in order to plan their math programs for the term.
